Nora Wildenauer was born in 1986 in Munich. She studied Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Munich, as well as Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University in the Netherlands. The author is interested in researching Eastern Indonesia and its anthropological landscape, as well as development studies and the perception of nature and volcanoes. The film received an award from the American Society for Visual Anthropology’s Film & Media Festival for the best master’s thesis.
After a volcanic eruption of Rokatenda in Indonesia, the inhabitants of the Palu’e Island had to be relocated. Impatient refugees, unclear property rights to the land where they were relocated, a worried local community and a corrupt and poorly organised government posed significant challenges to father Cyrillus and those who attempted to make the best of a tragic situation.
